After pledging to ‘reverse’ their spread, Obama increases nuclear weapons budget

"I have embraced the vision of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan through a strategy that reverses the spread of [nuclear] weapons, and seeks a world without them," President Barack Obama claimed during his first State of the Union speech.

"To reduce our stockpiles and launchers, while ensuring our deterrent, the United States and Russia are completing negotiations on the farthest-reaching arms control treaty in nearly two decades."

Yet, in the budget the Obama White House will send to Congress on Monday, the administration proposes a 10 percent spending increase on the nation's nuclear weapons budget, bringing the total to roughly $7 billion, according to McClatchy Newspapers.

Chilcot War Inquiry: We STILL think Blair lied, say 8 out of 10 Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1247394/Chilcot-war-Inquiry-We-STI

Tony Blair has been dealt a devastating verdict on his appearance at the Iraq War Inquiry.

Eight out of ten people believe that the former Prime Minister lied in his evidence.

They feel he made a ‘blood pact’ with George Bush to invade the country as he wanted to impress him – not because he believed Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

And nearly one in three thinks Mr Blair should be tried for war crimes.

Those are the damning conclusions of a Mail on Sunday poll conducted by BPIX after Mr Blair’s testimony to Sir John Chilcot’s inquiry on Friday.

China suspends military exchanges with the US and threatens to impose sanctions on US arms companies over a Washington decision to sell weapons to Taiwan.

China's Defense Ministry suspended military exchange visits with the US, saying the suspension was "in consideration of the serious harm and impacts [of the 6.4-billion-dollar US-Taiwan arms deal] on Sino-US military relations."

Chinese Foreign Ministry also threatened to impose sanctions on US firms that sell weapons to Taiwan amid straining relations between Washington and Beijing.

Americans' ignorance about politics isn't new, but the latest results from the Pew Poll suggest few are really paying attention.

The White House described it as a social call, but feel free to speculate. Jeb Bush's presence was unexpected -- the White House hadn't said anything about him being invited. It's all very... bipartisan.

Ron Paul Bill Seeks Coin And Bullion Tax Ban

Coin Legislation on Capital BuildingCongressman Ron Paul [R-TX] on Wednesday introduced legislation that would, if signed into law, end taxes on coins and bullion and repeal legal tender laws. The bill’s lofty goal is to reintroduce a system of competing currencies.

"At this country’s founding, there was no government controlled national currency. While the Constitution established the Congressional power of minting coins, it was not until 1792 that the US Mint was formally established," Rep. Ron Paul said.

"In the meantime, Americans made do with foreign silver and gold coins. Even after the Mint’s operations got underway, foreign coins continued to circulate within the United States, and did so for several decades.

H.R. 4248, or the [1] Free Competition in Currency Act of 2009, includes several measures to end government controlled currency. One is to repeal Section 5103 of Title 31 of the United States Code which includes legal tender language that, according to Ron Paul, should not exist.

"There is nothing in the Constitution that grants the Congress the power to enact legal tender laws. We, the Congress, have the power to coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, but not to declare a legal tender. Yet, there is a section of US Code, 31 USC 5103, that purports to establish US coins and currency, including Federal Reserve notes, as legal tender."

House Democrats Scold No-Show Homeland Security Secretary: ‘Where the Hell is Secretary Napolitano?’

(CNSNews.com) - Top Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee publicly scolded Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for failing to show up at a Wednesday hearing where the committee examined the attempted Christmas Day suicide bombing of Northwest Flight 253. One Democrat on the committee said he wanted to know “where the hell” Napolitano was.

That evening, Napolitiano did prominently show up at the Capitol to attend President Barack Obama's State of the Union address. But earlier in the day, she dispatched Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Jane Holl Lute to testify on her behalf in the Homeland Security Committee on what went wrong in the homeland-security process that allowed would-be suicide-bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab to board a plane bound from Amsterdam to the Detroit.

Terror suspect kept visa to avoid tipping off larger investigation From The Detroit News: http://detnews.com/article/20100127/NATION/1270405/Terror-s

Washington --The State Department didn't revoke the visa of foiled terrorism suspect Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab because federal counterterrorism officials had begged off revocation, a top State Department official revealed Wednesday.

Patrick F. Kennedy, an undersecretary for management at the State Department, said Abdulmutallab's visa wasn't taken away because intelligence officials asked his agency not to deny a visa to the suspected terrorist over concerns that a denial would've foiled a larger investigation into al-Qaida threats against the United States.

"Revocation action would've disclosed what they were doing," Kennedy said in testimony before the House Committee on Homeland Security. Allowing Adbulmutallab to keep the visa increased chances federal investigators would be able to get closer to apprehending the terror network he is accused of working with, "rather than simply knocking out one solider in that effort."

At the end of what had been billed as his 'Judgment Day', the former Prime Minister made it clear he would do the same again - and warned world leaders they may soon have to take similar decisions over Iran.

Despite the deaths of up to 700,000 Iraqis and 179 British troops, Mr Blair said he felt 'responsibility but not a regret' as he concluded his six hours of evidence to the Chilcot inquiry.

Drug firms 'drove swine flu pandemic warning to recoup billions spent on research'

Drug companies manipulated the World Health Organisation into downgrading its definition of a pandemic so they could cash in on a swine flu outbreak, it is claimed.

An inquiry heard yesterday that the WHO allegedly softened its criteria for declaring a H1N1 flu pandemic last spring - just weeks before announcing there was a worldwide outbreak.

Critics said the decision was driven by pharmaceutical companies desperate to recoup the billions of pounds they had invested in researching and developing pandemic vaccines after the bird flu scares in 2006 and 2007.

New Aurora Mystery: What is going on in the skies over Norway!?

On Jan. 20, 2010, Per-Arne Mikalsen was photographing a vast aurora erupting over the northern Norwegian town of Andenes.

Because solar activity is on the increase, aurora spotters have many opportunities to see the Northern Lights. On this particular night the aurora was intense, stretching toward the southern latitudes of Norway.

In one of the photographs taken by Mikalsen was an "object" that couldn't be identified. Although Mikalsen had taken several images at the same location, just one photo showed a mysterious green parachute-like object hanging with the main aurora. (This time, it appears that the Russian military was not involved in the making of this strange shape in the sky.)

At first it seemed easy to dismiss the object as a lens flare or a spot on the camera lens, but after further study it became clear that the answer wasn't that simple.

Ancient civilization discovered in Amazon

A fascinating find has come from the tragic loss of Brazilian rainforest, making some lemonade out of that lemon. Of course, what this discovery of a long lost Amazonian civilization means is that there have been other times when the forest was likewise not there, giving us hope that currently devastated areas can be regrown as well.

What this find also means is that those intrepid explorers of earlier times, such as Colonel P.H. Fawcett and many others, were correct in believing the natives, whose stories beginning centuries ago described not just one but many civilizations or cities lost in the massive rainforest as well as elsewhere in remote, overgrown parts of South America.

Inquirer columnist Daniel Rubin reports that a 22-year-old University of Michigan student fell victim to a particularly cruel "joke" at the hands of a TSA employee at Philadelphia International Airport on Jan. 5.

As Rebecca Solomon passed through security on her way to boarding a Detroit-bound flight, a TSA agent pulled a small baggie filled with white powder out of her carry-on and asked, "Where did you get it?"

A panicked Solomon suffered for 20 seconds before the guard cracked a smile and said, "Just kidding."

Why is the US occupying four airports in Haiti?

The United States is now operating at four airports to ferry aid and relief supplies to quake-devastated Haiti, a senior US military commander said Thursday. Around 11,000 US military personnel are currently controlling the operations both on the ground and offshore aboard US Navy and Coast Guard vessels, and another 4,000 US troops are expected to arrive in the coming days. The Americans’ controlling of the aid operations has raised tensions with some countries. Bolivia and Venezuela have criticized its heavy presence and France earlier expressed annoyance after aid planes were delayed from landing. French Secretary of State for Cooperation Alain Joyandet called on the United Nations to clarify the US role in Haiti, saying the priority was “helping Haiti, not occupying Haiti.”

My first

What's up!!! I started this with 3 main goals in mind:

A) To get my thoughts, theories, philosophic ramblings out there without clogging up Facebook newsfeeds

B) To be a mediator between newsfeeds that are not picked up by mainstream media sources and the public - becoming aware is important to understanding the reality we live in.

C) To get people thinking!! We are very one track minded these days and don't really pay attention to the things underlying our society that we're either afraid of knowing, know but don't care about, or don't know about and don't care to know about. I have never been afraid of hard-hitting questions such as 'Why do we exist?' or 'Where did we really come from?' They tell us we only use 10-20% of our brains, I believe the other unused portions could point me towards the answers to these questions. I also believe the only way to open up this dormant part of the brain is to start looking for answers away from mainstream or just normal sources such as news, TV, newspapers. Those obviously haven't gotten us anywhere!

I'm going to be posting thoughts, ramblings, and so on, but mostly just links to articles from all over the world. I will try to get as far as I can into the inner workings of Earth so we can all figure out what the hell is going on!!! :)
